Privacy.
Plainradar finds today's news on any topic. We collect only what we need to run it, plus usage statistics only if you agree. No ads, and we never sell your data.
Who we are
Plainradar (plainradar.com, "we") is responsible for the data described here. Questions or requests: [email protected].
What we collect
- Your account: your email address, your name if you give one, and your password, stored only as a secure hash (Argon2id). If you turn on two-step login, we keep its secret encrypted and its recovery codes hashed.
- Your searches: the topics you search, when, and how many credits you have used and how many sites you follow, so we can apply your plan's limits. A running search's working data is deleted after an hour.
- Your trackers: their topics or chosen sites, noise filters, schedule and delivery settings (email, webhook address, Google Sheet), and the stories they found.
- Purchases: the credit packs you buy, the amount, tax and date. Stripe collects your card details and billing address; we never see or store your card number.
- Agent tokens: the tokens you create for AI agents and the apps you connect by signing in (the app's name and its tokens), stored only as hashes.
- Security records: the IP address and time of sign-ins and account changes, and short-lived counters that limit repeated attempts.
- Searching without an account: a counter of free searches tied to your IP address, kept up to 60 days, and the topics you search (without your IP address).
- Messages to us: what you send through the contact form (name, email, message), with the site language and your IP address.
- Usage statistics, only if you agree: with Google Analytics, the pages you visit (including the search topic in the page address), how you got here, your device and browser type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address.
Cookies and browser storage
One cookie keeps you logged in. It is needed for the site to work and is used for nothing else. Your browser also remembers the site language and search language you picked, and your choice about analytics.
Google Analytics cookies (named _ga) are set only after you press Accept in the cookie bar, and they help us understand how the site is used. If you decline, Google Analytics doesn't load at all. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page; declining then removes these cookies. There are no advertising cookies.
How we use it
To run the service (searches, trackers and their deliveries), to send you account emails (confirmations, password resets, tracker digests), to keep accounts and the service secure and free of abuse, and to answer your messages. With your consent, to measure how the site is used so we can improve it. We rely on our agreement with you to provide the service, on our legitimate interest in keeping it secure and answering you, and on your consent for analytics, which you can withdraw at any time.
Who else processes data
We use these providers. They act on our behalf and only get what they need:
- Hetzner Online (Germany): our servers and database.
- Cloudflare: network delivery and protection, the human check on forms (Turnstile), and forwarding email sent to our support address.
- Brevo: sends our emails.
- Stripe: processes payments for credit packs, works out the tax due, and receives your email address, billing address and payment details.
- Google: Vertex AI ranks search results and receives your search topic with the article texts (not who you are). Your browser loads fonts and site icons from Google, which sees your IP address. If you connect a Google Sheet, stories are written to it. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics receives the usage statistics described above.
- OpenAI: writes the briefings (“What matters today” above search results, and in trackers that have it on), and receives the search or tracker topic with the titles and summaries of the stories (not who you are).
- TypeSafe AI: checks that stories match your topic and your noise filters, and receives the topic, filters and article texts (not who you are).
- Have I Been Pwned: when you set a password, we check it against known leaks by sending only the first five characters of its hash, never the password.
Images and links in results come from the news sites themselves, which see your IP address when your browser loads them. Webhooks send stories to the address you enter. Some providers may process data outside the EU; where they do, they use the safeguards the GDPR requires.
How long we keep it
- Your account, searches, trackers and tokens: until you delete your account. Deleting it removes them right away.
- Purchase records: as long as tax and accounting law requires (up to 10 years), also after you delete your account.
- Sign-ups never confirmed: 7 days.
- Logins: a session ends after 14 days without use.
- Security records: up to 1 year.
- Messages to us: up to 1 year.
- Google Analytics data: 14 months.
Your rights
You can see, correct, export or delete your data, and object to how we use it. You can delete your account yourself under Account, or write to [email protected] for anything else. If you are in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Plainradar is not meant for children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. For important changes, we'll tell you by email.
